Minimalism is about prepping yourself for the day. It’s part organization and making sure to rejuvenate yourself. In thinking of minimalism this month, I considered how I start each day. I have certain routines that I do to help motivate me to move me through my day.
Mornings are very precious to me. I am a morning person. It’s no joke that I wake up around 5:30am each day. Of course, that means that I’m no night owl. I usually go to bed by 9:30pm. I’m willing to do this because for me the quiet time that I experience in the morning is worth not being a night owl.
The first thing I do in the morning is choose an oil to rub on the bottom of my feet. The oil depends on what I need each morning. Of course, there is also coffee. I must have a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. The old brain cells won’t function without it.
After the oil and the coffee, I usually sit down in my favorite chair and begin my devotions and prayer. Starting off the day with prayer really helps me. I have skipped this part before and I must admit that it feels like I am missing something throughout the day.
After a bit of quiet time, I begin to organize my calendar, write in my daily journal, and work on blogs. The mornings are a great time for me to get myself organized and prepped. I also find that writing in the morning works out better for me. Probably because that cup of coffee has energized the brain cells.
Of course, this routine varies and sometimes the mornings are cut short, but that’s okay. It’s that quiet time before the calendar, the writing, and the organizing that is truly my motivation.
