In thinking this month about minimalism, I realized how easily we minimize our time with God. One of the whole points of minimalism is to create more time for what’s important. Though we can all agree God is important, why is time with Him often put on hold or shoved to the side?
A quick prayer in the morning, a fast read of today’s memory verse, and I check off time with God on my “to do” list. I think that just meeting God for a quick chat in the morning has pleased Him and fulfilled my Christian duty. The reality is, that God requires and will work more in our lives when we make Him the priority.
I say all this because I have done all this. I still have a hard time giving up my time to God. As a Mom, I love those quiet times in the morning and I often selfishly do my own thing during those times. Giving God time is so important! The time I spend with Him is when He works in me. That’s the time I can listen to Him. That’s the time my spirit is renewed.
“So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17
Don’t minimize your time with God. For you to hear Him, you must spend time with Him. Look at what is keeping you from spending time with Him and minimize those things instead. Also, remember we can talk to God not just in the morning, but all day long!
This month think about what is keeping you from time with God. Have you minimized time with God?
