Instant Pots Do Not Explode.

I just joined the crazy crowd and purchased an Instant Pot! Yes, I have given in to the enticements of this little metal machine. With all it’s buttons and the dreaded steam release valve I took the plunge and bought the name brand Instant Pot.

When I first pulled it out of it’s box I was very overwhelmed. I wondered what I had gotten myself into. I read all the warning labels about not putting your face directly over the steam valve and I became paranoid. Oh no, this thing may explode.

Glad to inform everyone that after watching several Youtube videos on this device I became confident enough to give it a try.

I tried cooking goulash and made a huge mistake by setting the pressure cooking timer wrong. The goulash became a little mushy. The second recipe I tried was a bit bold for me. I made Thai Red Curry with Chicken. Bold, I know. The dinner turned out great! I set the timer for the correct time and the machine did not explode. The red curry chicken was delicious!

The next option I want to try is the slow cooker option. I would like to see if the Instant Pot could replace my slow cooker. I will let you guys know.

What I am pleased with?

It cleans easily and all accessories, if they are placed on the top rack are dishwasher safe.

I would recommend watching a few beginner Youtube videos to gain some confidence. The instructions are okay, but not enough detail.

The steam valve is nothing to be frightened of. It works just fine.

It cooked the chicken, potatoes, carrots, and celery to perfection in twelve minutes!

The machine automatically goes into warming mode after pressure cooking to keep food nice and hot.

Below are links to the Youtube videos I recommend and the recipe I used.

  2. Never heard of it, but it sounds wonderful! I’m always looking for ways to make cooking faster and easier, so I’m going to have to look into this. I would love to know if you are able to replace your slow cooker with this because I have 3 that are either too small or too heavy and I would love to get rid of them. And is that a cake button I see?!

    1. Yes, that is a cake button. They say you can make cakes and even yogurt in this thing. I’m planning on trying out the slow cooker this week and will let you know how it goes. I may one day have to try the cake option! 🙂
